Contest rules

If your app is not ready for either of the online stores (Apple or Google) but if you have a working downloadable version, does this qualify for entry?

    Jerry,
Although we encourage integrations to be completed after or outside the contest, they must be live apps to be eligible for the prizes.

If my app (Android apk file) is downloaded from my website and loaded onto a judge's mobile device, then I consider that a live app. Is this your understanding? I just don't have enough time to complete the app to make it eligible for an online store.

We will be supporting all the contest entries via our basecamp and "sideloading" / testflight downloading the apps anyways throughout the QA testing stages. It is a very strict rule that the app MUST be in the app store connected to our production environment to be eligible for high value prize(s).

    The rules state:
The Application must be publicly available in the USA version of an app store (e.g. Apple App Store, Google Play) or at an accessible web domain by the end of the contest submission deadline (11:59 PM CST on Friday November 28, 2014) to be considered for Prize.

So about the "or an accessible web domain" statement. Does this mean a web app only? This is not clear to it's meaning, at least to me.

Is it possible to get an unfinished app into either of the app stores? Really need some clarification, can you help explain.

    Hi Jerry:

The rule sentence in question was meant to apply to developers who were integrating our Balance Rewards API into a web application (versus a mobile app) where the concept of an App Store would not apply, hence the clause about the accessible web domain. It is not meant as the definition for the delivery method of a mobile app integration.

In regards to unfinished apps within either app store, it is not our intention to promote the submission of an unfinished application into an app store. The goal of the contest is to offer up the applicable prizes for developers who are able to complete the integration the rules of the contest.

Please keep in mind that this contest is not the only vehicle to work with Walgreens and our Balance Rewards API. If the timing will not work out for your app to be completed by the end of the contest submission period, our team can still work with you to complete the integration, albeit outside of the contest itself.

Hope this helps to clarify things.

    Be Well,
    The Walgreens API team

This explanation was very helpful. Knowing that the team will help even if I can't get the app into a store is a great thing to know. I really like the Balance Rewards concept, it adds a cool reward system to my app concept.

So now, I need to present a situation that might not be allowed but I do need additional clarification.

I dumb down my mobile app so it only features a portion of it's capabilities, so I can get it into a store. Question: can I supply a design doc that shows the entire concept in detail, to be supporting information for the judges in their decision making process? I think the idea of the judges seeing the full concept, alongside the app, a positive. I know this is a contest grey area but I want to explore all possibilities. I know your goal is to get apps that Walgreens can promote straight away, but sometimes the full concept can't be produced in a month and a half.
